Hagerstown, MD, Area Survey

Hagerstown, a town of 40, 612, is the county seat of Washington County, MD, 60 miles from Washington D.C. and thus outside of the fast growing area in the suburban ring of the nation's capitol. However, as the suburbs of Washington continue to grow in a concentric manner in all directions, Hagerstown is now a legitimate bedroom suburb of Washington, even though it maintains its semi-industrial character, particularly in the downtown area. The physical investment in dental offices there is old, often in houses or old office buildings. In the leading dental offices of Hagerstown, we can see the wave of the future, however distant- if current trends continue, Hagerstown will be a fast growing, affluent town, in the same way Manassas and Fredericksburg across the river have become. For the moment, the median household income does not reflect this trend, but we expect this to change. At exit 65 on interstate 70, just outside Frederick- 'Antietam Road;' there is a tremendous investment in single family homes, much as we saw in Gaithersburg and Germantown 30 years ago. The rapid growth in housing value within the capitol beltway continues to push the rank and file civil servant further afield- but those family oriented individuals are the core of growth trends in advanced dental practices.

The three leading dental offices in Hagerstown, Toothman Orthodontics, Village Orthodontics and Potomac Dental Care rank with some of the leading offices we have surveyed across the United States, all scoring over 20 points on our Denta+media Social Factors scale, which measures the degree of advanced dental marketing practices.

Toothman Orthodontics has already switched to Facebook as its primary review tool, and also participates in local social events and charities. The office has recently invested in a creative logo which communicates its unique brand, and is staffed for success, with an office manager and front desk help. The use of social media is good and we can expect to see improvement.

Village Orthodontics scores similarly to Toothman with a 22 on our Denta+media Social Factors scale, the only difference being their physical branding scores…they have a complete front office staff, excepting a marketing coordinator, and the logo is not as distinctive.

Potomac Dental Care has a great looking logo and also scores a 22, and lags in the number of Facebook and Google reviews. As all three offices gain more experience with these basic in bound marketing tools, and organize their own participation in more local health care events, we can expect their scores to match the best in the United States.
